Little Libraries

Little Libraries

A  Junior League of the Palm Beaches Literacy Program

Group of people with little library.

The Little Libraries initiative currently aims to promote literacy and reading among elementary students who attend Title 1 or low income schools in Palm Beach County. These miniature libraries are strategically placed in easily accessible locations within
the school property, providing a convenient way for students to have books in the home, borrow, exchange, and engage with a variety of books. Having books at home is critical for children to learn how to read. In this way, children who might not
otherwise be able to have books at home can easily choose books that they would like to read and have them at home. Third grade is a critical year for children to know how to read in school and that is why we are focused on elementary aged children.
The trajectory of a child’s life can be changed if they can read.

We are excited about the positive impact the Little Libraries program has already had in the schools where installations have taken place since our Pilot year of 2021/2022. In 2024 there are about 4,500 elementary students that we are currently reaching and with the planned additional schools for this year, we will reach over 12,000 elementary aged students in Palm Beach County. And this year we will donate over 3,600 books.

By providing easy access to books, we hope to increase literacy and inspire a love for reading and support the educational journeys of students.

If you have any questions or would like more information about any aspect of the program, please feel free to reach out to littlelibraries@jlpb.org. Thank you for your ongoing support in fostering a culture of learning and literacy.
