FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE PALM BEACHES RECEIVES NEARLY $8,500 FROM LOCAL FOUNDATION

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (August X, 2015) The Junior League of the Palm Beaches, which has provided free ear and eye screenings to local preschoolers for more than 45 years, recently received a nearly $8,500 grant from The Lost Tree Village Charitable Foundation to purchase much-needed new vision and hearing equipment.  This will enable members, through the nonprofit’s Eye and Ear Alert Committee, to provide more effective screenings with the latest technology and travel to more schools due to the lighter, more portable equipment.

New equipment includes long eye vision boards, hearing audiometers, and 3-D depth perception books and glasses. Visual attention stimuli were also replaced with up-to-date, relevant toys to better keep kids’ attention during screenings.

For more than 45 years, the Eye & Ear Alert Committee has provided thousands of free vision and hearing screenings to preschoolers throughout Palm Beach County to detect problems for effective correction. Onsite screenings at Memorial Presbyterian Church in West Palm Beach and re-screenings are conducted throughout the school year at various Palm Beach County preschools. League volunteers see anywhere from 20 to 90 kids per school, visiting two to three schools per month during the school year. This past year alone, League volunteers screened almost 400 children across 13 sessions for local preschools.
